just removed an old Chafataux Celtic FF. This boiler being the prefered choice and recommendation of British Gas in the early 90's. Having a British Gas contract is worth its weight in gold if you are unlucky enough to have one of these unreliable boilers.
Phil & Christine my customers had suffered for years with the french disaster combi. No wonder they decided to give themselves a bit of peace of mind when they chose to replace it with a Baxi Platinum 28 HE. Not the cheapest boiler on the market but it comes with a megga 5 year warranty as standard.( I think thats a statement of quality0
I brought the system up to current Building Regulation standards by fitting a programmable digital wireless room stat.
The boiler looks simple enough to fix if it ever goes wrong and on the whole I was quietly impressed.
I was tempted to drag the job out when my lovely customers kept plying me with the bacon and egg sandwiches and tea , the hospitality was appreciated.

Cant get the parts anymore?????
Fitted a new pump on an Ideal Mexico today. The customer was told by British Gas that you cant get some of the parts anymore and it would be wise to update it to a new one. My new customer cancelled her £27 a month contract with B G.
I spotted the problem with the pump within a couple of minutes. I had a new one fitted within 15.
Hard to come by these pumps, (not).

Think about it
I fixed a Ravenheat 85 ET today (DRY JOINT ON A THERMISTOR CONNECTION). As usual I ask the customer the track record for the boiler. It turns out that it has had a central heating thermistor replaced in its 5 year life. It cost him £80. Im going on British Gases £16 p/m insurance plan, said my customer Richard .
You paid out £80 in 5 years I said. Not bad at all I said. If you had been on the B G plan you would have paid out £960 up untill now. Think about it I said.
I mentioned to him a combi boiler has only a 10 -12 year life generally, so I could put a new one in for around about the money he will save over the next 5 years.

Worcester 28 SI 2 combi nightmare
I have been working on a 28 SI 2 today. When I arrived, The customer (Gren) pointed out its 4 year track record as follows,
What a terrible boiler Gren said, yes I agreed as I arrived at the conclusion that he would also need a new pcb at £100 +
This boiler was recommended to the customer by his installer (now retired) , not his fault as he went on reputation. Times have changed because reputation wont repair broken boilers for free when the warranty has expired.
After speaking with Worcester it appears that this boiler has had an upgrade on the pcb and hopefully Worcester have got it right now.
Grenville I wish you the best of luck.

I recommend the Ravenheat CSI 85 b / a. Condensing Combi

It has a 2 or 3 year parts and labour waranty on the boiler
Fitting a Condensing Boiler will save you money

The cost of gas is very expensive. It makes good financial sense to be as fuel efficient as possible.
Energy efficient controls

Update your heating control
